Parts of a Letter

           After reading “Parts of the Letter” , I really had a better understanding of what typography actually includes. I learned many new terms including apex, crossbar, vertex, final, terminal, bowl, counter, and many more. I never realized how structured lettering can be. It all needs to be lined up, but there is room for different pieces of the letter to venture out from the box it’s contained in. I particularly found the letter “G” very interesting. The term spur is something I had never heard of in reference to letters, but without that line, The “G” would not look like the letter “G”. That just refers to the uppercase “G”. The lowercase “g” has a whole new set of terms, the ear, link, and loop. The ear of the “g” actually does look like an ear. The link is the curve that connects the top circle to the loop below.
